Eligibility Requirements:

  • A motivated entrepreneur 

  • Self-identify as an individual who has experienced mental health and/or addiction challenges

  • Unable to access traditional bank financing for their small business 

  • Not in active bankruptcy, behind on child support payments or government taxes

  • Reside in Canada 

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

 

Program Benefits: 

1.  Financing 

  • Up to $10,000 to launch or grow your business

  • Repayment starts 30 days post loan disbursement

  • Low-interest rates with an average loan term of 3 years 

2. Mentorship

  • Connects you with a Rise mentor for guidance and support

3. Support

  • Assistance with reviewing your business plan

  • Resources for you to improve your business skills and financial management

Eligibility Requirements:

1. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident aged 18 to 39

  • You must be between 18 and 39 years old when you submit your application 

2. You must demonstrate some training or experience in your field

  • You must be able to demonstrate that you have experience working in your industry and related to your business idea 

3. You cannot be a contractor or an agent

  • To apply you cannot be an agent or contractor working for another already-existing business

1. Accessible financing 

  • A flexible, equity-free startup business loan of up to $60,000, including up to $40,000 in financing from BDC.* *conditions apply

1. You must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada 

  • You must physically reside in Canada

2. You are between the ages of 18 - 39 

  • At the time of your application you must be within the stated age range in order to be eligible 

3. You have a full time income outside of your side business 

  • For the next 12 months, your side business will remain your secondary source of income

  • Not attending school or planning to return to school while enrolled in the program

  • Be devoting a minimum of 35 hours per week to their small business and not employed anywhere else 

  • Not enrolled in any other government-funded employment program 

  • A resident of Toronto with ability to demonstrate proof of physical address 

 

Business Requirements: 

  • Must be a registered business at the time of application (Sole Proprietor, Partnership or Corporation) and this business registration documentation (Master Business Licence or Articles of Incorporation) must show a Toronto address

  • Must have a commercial business bank account at the time of application which corresponds with Business Registration documentation 

  • Must have been in operation for up to 3 years and be able to demonstrate financial activity statements for this period

  • Must have majority ownership and the ability to demonstrate proof of ownership and/or shareholder agreement 

  • Must be located in Toronto with ability to demonstrate proof of physical address

  • Businesses the require certification and/or license must be current at the time of application 

  • Must be able to commit to in-person and/or virtual entrepreneurship training 

  • Must have already invested 25% of the grant amount ($1,250) into the business at the time of application (cash, marketing efforts, equipment, commercial rent, or other legitimate start up expenses) 

 

Program Benefits: 

  • Up to 15 hours of business training

  • A micro-grant of $5,000

  • Up to 6 months of advisory and mentoring services

  • Proof of ownership and/or shareholder agreement
